University of Copenhagen The University seeks to appoint a professor,
alternatively Associate Professor transferred to the UCPH promotion programme, to the Department of Odontology to commence as soon as possible.
About the Department We aim to promote health in the population by optimizing diagnostics, prevention and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial areas. Our purpose includes research-based and -integrating teaching to ensure that basic, translational and clinical research reaches clinical practice.
We focus on interdisciplinary research across three research sections and collaborate with national and international institutions, municipalities, regional hospitals, private practices, and businesses in the medical field to solve complex challenges regarding interactions between oral and medical diseases. The main body of staff at the Department of Odontology is financed by public funding.

https://odontology.ku.dk/ The field of Oral Radiology is part of the research section for Clinical Oral Microbiology. In this section we aim to focus on mechanisms and interaction between oral microorganisms and tissue response, so that we are better equipped to prevent, diagnose, and treat oral disease with an advantageous effect on the general health. Focus is also given to intervention research with the aim of developing and testing new diagnostic methods and treatment principles. For this purpose, we use molecular biological, culture-based, and clinical as well as paraclinical examination methods. The vision is to limit the prevalence of oral diseases caused by microbiological dysbiosis.
https://odontology.ku.dk/research/clinical-oral-microbiology/ Job description As Professor at the Department of Odontology your main emphasis will be on performing original and innovative scientific work at an international level and contributing with high quality research-based and research-integrating teaching in the pre-graduate curriculum. Other tasks include academic assessments and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students.
There is an increasing demand for digital solutions within dentistry. As Professor of Digital Odontology and Oral Radiology, you will therefore be expected to initiate and run research projects with focus on digital solutions useful for research and clinical dental practice, and you will be the driving force in developing and implementing digital teaching methods.
You will be responsible for the field of Oral Radiology, which covers research and teaching as well as examination of dental students, clinical radiographic referrals and service to the authorities. Teaching and examination in Oral Radiology covers radiation hygiene, X-ray physics, quality, and diagnostics on 2D and 3D x-ray images. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the radiographic equipment at the Department.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
- Examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students
- Research-based public-sector consultancy may be required

International applicants are expected to learn Danish and to speak/understand the language at a sufficient level within a reasonable period, in order to be able to teach as well as keeping patient records in Danish, a legislative requirement in Denmark.
The candidate must have completed the MSc degree in Dentistry (equivalating the Danish 2-year Master programme, entailing authorization). Candidates with the right to work independently as a dentist in accordance with Danish legislation will be preferred.

Management tasks include course leadership.

- As a part of our academic staff, you will contribute to life-long learning in our interdisciplinary environment and to our ongoing development of the Department with your expertise and competencies and thus contribute to a positive working and educational environment.
- You are professional in your daily work and in your relationships with colleagues, students, and patients.
Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:
- A high degree of original academic production at an international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline.
- Research management and other management functions, e.g. commitment to the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer.
- Research-based teaching.
The professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.
For candidates who do not completely fulfil the required criteria for a professor position, but fulfil all criteria as Associate Professor and demonstrate the potential to transition into a position as Professor at the end of the programme may be transferred to the UCPH promotion programme to professor after employment.

The average weekly working hours are
37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2025.
