The Department of People and Technology (IMT), Roskilde University, invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor in health and society, with a specific focus on mental health and the spatial dimensions of care. The position will commerce from 01-06-2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Department of People and Technology is the largest department at Roskilde University, researching human – society – technology interactions and covering e.g., health studies, sustainable transition, social interventions & entrepreneurship, urban planning, digital transformation, data science, work studies etc. The position is linked to the Health and Society Section covering a dynamic group of researchers, focusing on contemporary health-related issues and challenges.

The section offers an innovative and interdisciplinary environment for health research, characterized by academic and methodological diversity, based on anthropology, sociology, science and technology studies, social psychology, nursing science, public health science, biostatistics and epidemiology. The group produces research at the highest international level that feeds into educational programs, such as Master in Critical Health Studies, Master in Nursing Science, Master in Health Promotion and BA programs in Humanities and Technology (HUMTEK) and Health Promotion. The group collaborates extensively with external partners at local, regional, and national levels, hereby contributing to societal change, while simultaneously emphasizing international outreach and collaboration with international partners.

The section is currently expanding and strengthening its research in key strategic areas. For this position, we are seeking a candidate who can actively contribute to the development of the section’s interdisciplinary research on mental health, with particular emphasis on spatial dimensions of care. We are looking for a candidate with a strong international research profile in this field, who at the same time is committed to interdisciplinary and problem-oriented education and management.

The candidate will serve as Head of Studies for the BA program in Humanities and Technology (HUMTEK) for a fixed-term period of four years. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with interdisciplinary teaching focusing on human - technology relationships, along with a strong interest in education leadership and management. The position requires the ability to cover and integrate the fields of Science and Technology Studies, Design Research, and Computer Science in the BA program.

Responsibilities and tasks
Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for specifications on the required level of qualifications for associate professors at IMT within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact and outreach etc. The candidate for this position is expected to:
  • conduct and develop the Health and Society Section’s research on mental health and digital psychiatry
  • develop and nurture relevant research networks nationally and internationally.
  • develop and manage interdisciplinary teaching and problem-oriented education, in relation to the BA program in Humanities and Technology (HUMTEK)
  • demonstrate academic leadership and citizenship in everyday life at the department and the section
  • contribute to developing models for stakeholder engagement in education and research

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in a relevant research field (e.g., sociology, anthropology, science and technology study, design research, health research) or equivalent qualifications, as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to what can be achieved in a successful assistant professor employment.

Qualifications within the following areas are required:
  • strong international research profile in interdisciplinary mental health research and spatial dimensions of care
  • experience with interdisciplinary and problem-oriented education and management, focusing on human-technology relationships
  • interest in interdisciplinary education management, covering and integrating the fields of Science and Technology Studies, Design Research, and Computer
  • experience with stakeholder engagement in research and teaching
  • fluency in Danish, since teaching is in Danish

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to
  • relevance of research expertise and ability to engage in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • the ability to create, promote and utilize research results
  • experience in problem-oriented teaching and education development and management
  • ability to create an engaged and motivating learning environment
  • ability to contribute to the development of the department’s internal and external collaboration

Terms of employment
The employment is full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Head of Department at IMT, RUC

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
