Are you our new zookeeper colleague in the rescue centre for exotic animals?
We are currently looking for one or two new educated or trained zookeepers specialising in exotic animals. The charity foundation Odsherred Zoo Rescue is Denmark's first and only zoo and rescue centre for exotic animals in need.
The position is for our primate, larger animals and smaller cats, birds etc. You must be a team player and collaborate closely with the other keepers, consisting of 6-7 zookeepers (when we ar full) and a Zoologist.
It is a full-time position, and there is a working weekend shift twice a month. You must be positive, hardworking, see your animals and colleagues, and be honest. You meet on time every day and do not call in sick twice a week. We have a work policy about helping each other during the day and You have to be passionate about working with animals.
In half of the year, when we are open to the public, all the keepers do presentations at the specific animals they care for, for the visitors in the rescue zoo. Public speaking intro of the enclosures about the particular animals is a mandatory part of the job that you must be willing to learn.
We create content regularly for our social media platforms to promote the work we do with the rescue animals and the charity foundation in general.
This includes live streams, images, and recorded videos that every rescue keeper participates in to tell the stories about our work with the rescue animals occasionally.
We look forward to seeing and meeting our new colleague and would like you to take up the position soon.
We imagine that the zookeeperposition is for a period of 6 months to 1 year with the possibility of extension
We have three legs to stand on here in the rescue zoo:
1) We are first and foremost a rescue centre for exotic animals in need. We have animals from the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, forcibly removed from other zoos and previously privately owned individuals, coming from Denmark and all over Europe.
2) We take part in breeding programs with the rarest of spices, like the endangered tamarins from South America
3) We are also a traditional zoo with visiting guests we educate about our animals and conservation, 6-7 months out of the year.
But then the traditional part of being a zoo also stops. We appreciate the individual animals here and do not put down surplus animals to make space for new ones.
This position is not for a Conservative and locked-in animal caretaker who have not become acquainted with rescue centres at home or abroad or animal caretakers who do not want to learn about the idea of running a rescue zoo instead of a traditional zoo.
We look forward to seeing and meeting our new colleague and would like you to take up the position as soon as possible. It is possible to rent a shared house owned by the Foundation.
You must send the application with a CV to post@odsherreds-zoo.dk, only written inquiries.
Yours sincerely
Joan Thygesen
