The Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a number of positions as associate professor in the
field of economics and business economics. The associate professorship is a full-time,
permanent position with expected starting date 1 August 2026 or as soon as possible
subject to mutual agreement.

Job description

As associate professor you will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level and carry out research of the highest international standards. Furthermore, you are expected to apply for external research funding, and to conduct knowledge exchange and research dissemination.

Qualifications

You must possess research qualifications and teaching skills and experience
corresponding to those obtained after successful completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor.

1.Research Qualifications
  • You have an international research profile with emphasis on publications in leading peer-reviewed journals within the relevant field.
  • You have produced a significant body of publications in terms of quantity and quality. As a guideline, you have at least one publication per research year after the PhD (with top general interest and top field journals carrying greater weight) and in total at least 3-6 publications.
  • You show progress and momentum in your research production with research works that go beyond your PhD dissertation.
  • You demonstrate research independence (e.g. via single-authored publications) but also have a broad group of co-authors and have started establishing national and international networks.
2. Teaching Qualifications
  • You deliver high-quality teaching and supervision at the Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level (as documented by teaching evaluations).
  • You have the ability to take course responsibility (curriculum development, development of course material etc.).
  • You must have completed the pedagogical course for assistant professors at Aarhus BSS (or a similar course).
3. Other Qualifications
  • You contribute to a collegial work environment and have the potential to contribute to departmental services.
  • You have the potential to attract external research funding.
  • You have an interest in research dissemination and outreach.
Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of, within a two year period, the supervision course and also the course Online and blended learning provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University.

Non-Danish applicants are expected to learn Danish within the first few years of employment.

The evaluation process

Shortlisting is applied. This means that an appointment committee (assisted by the
chair of the expert assessment committee) advises the head of department on which
applicants are the best overall match for the department, and the recruitment needs and which possess the qualifications, competencies, experience and potential described above and in the criteria of Aarhus BSS for evaluating candidates to Associate Professor positions.

whether or not their applications have been shortlisted and sent to an expert

Terms of employment

The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
