We are looking for:

Steel Fitters

Key tasks:

Your job as steel fitter will be responsible for assembling, positioning, aligning, and fitting structural steel components to create frameworks for buildings, bridges, ships, and heavy machinery.

 Your key responsibilities & duties will include:

·         Blueprint Interpretation: Study engineering drawings, blueprints, and material lists to plan the sequence of tasks and determine material requirements.

·         Layout and Fabrication: Layout reference points and patterns on heavy metal to prepare for cutting, bending, and forming.

·         Assembly and Fitting: Assemble, align, and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits, using tack welding, bolting, or riveting.

·         Machine Operation: Operate heavy-duty machinery such as cranes, shearers, brake presses, grinders, drills, and cutting torches to prepare components.

·         Quality Inspection: Inspect and test completed components to ensure they meet specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

·         Positioning and Installation: Position parts in jigs (sometimes created by tack-welding scrap metal) and use grinders, chisels, or files to ensure precise fits.

Skills:

·     English - must be able to communicate in English 

·         Technical Knowledge: Proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings.

·         Fabrication Skills: Experience (good to have) with metal fabrication techniques, including tack welding, oxy-acetylene cutting, and operating shop machinery.

·         Mathematical Skills: Strong understanding of shop math for measuring, layout, and calculations.

·         Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting heavy loads, and sometimes working at heights.

·         Safety Adherence: Strict compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) standards and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Experience:

• Experience is good to have but that's not necessary
