The University seeks to appoint a professor to the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to commence as soon as possible.

A professor at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology is a committed and responsible member of our academic community providing research, education, innovation and outreach activities to the society. The successful applicant will be an active member or leader of one of our interdisciplinary research clusters and disciplinary teaching groups. We aspire to facilitate research across complementary and synergistic research disciplines. The research clusters provide a departmental framework for scientific collaboration at high international level, and facilitate an inspiring scientific working environment.
The applicant should have a strong background in molecular neuropharmacology investigating mechanism-of-action of receptor/transporter function related to neurotransmission, for details see “Desired qualifications”. Additionally, a proven track-record of developing academic courses at the pre and post graduate level is required.
The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination of results to the scientific community and to the general public
- Develop, organize and conduct research-based teaching, including associated examination, within the field of pharmacology
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of students and researchers
- Engage in outreach and/or innovation activities both within the Department and towards academia and industry in general
- Being a committed and dedicated member of the Department’s academic community
- Obligation to share knowledge with society, e.g. participation in public debate

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The applicant must be able to document:
- original academic production at high international level, including considerable contributions to the development of the academic discipline within: research, teaching, innovation and outreach
- leadership and/or management functions, e.g. engage in the university’s external academic activities, as well as knowledge and technology transfer
- development, organisation and conduction of research-based teaching within pharmacology as well as supervision of students
(i) An established record in one or more fundamental aspects of molecular neuropharmacology. Examples include studies of ligand-receptor interactions, development and pharmacological characterization of novel pharmacological tool compounds and delineation of molecular mechanism-of-action of receptor/transporter function related to e.g. receptor activation, substrate transport, signaling and allosteric modulation.
(ii) Potential to establish a research program with focus on the molecular pharmacology of neuronal receptors, transporters and/or proteins regulating these, and the study of molecular mechanisms underlying diseases by e.g. studies of genetically modified mice.
(iii) Demonstrated ability to develop novel reagents or technologies that are of broad applicability or yield new insights into molecular mechanisms relevant to pharmacology.
(iv) Capacity to instigate and participate in collaborative science involving scientists across scientific disciplines (e.g. medicinal chemistry, computational chemistry, structural biology, and cellular and molecular biology), which is crucial given the highly interdisciplinary nature of today’s research.
(v) Training and documented expertise in development of courses and teaching in a broad range of pharmacological topics from the molecular to the systems level.
(vi) Engagement in innovation activities and ability to transform scientific discoveries into novel innovations, e.g. demonstrated by a track-record of patent applications and/or establishing spin-out companies.
Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific position.
