Microsoft Quantum has assembled a talented and diverse international team to create the world’s first scalable quantum computing system.  Microsoft’s verticalized approach involves exciting innovations at every level, from the qubit device and quantum information plane, to the quantum-classical interface and classical compute system, all the way up to the system software, applications and global services.  Microsoft Quantum will change the world of computing and help solve some of humankind’s currently unsolvable problems.

The Quantum team is seeking a Fabrication Engineer to develop new hybrid semiconductor-superconductor platforms for topological quantum computing This is a business-critical role that will have a direct and significant impact on one of the most unique teams at Microsoft, and requires a candidate who:

  • Develop standard operating procedures, maintain and review process control charts, and troubleshoot fabrication issues on demand.
  • Develop nanofabrication processes and integrate them into a robust process flow for the fabrication of topological quantum devices.
  • Design and fabricate nano-electronic devices for topological computing applications
  • Train junior researchers/staff on cleanroom fabrication equipment.
  • Coordinate with materials growers, cleanroom staff, and measurement staff to optimize workflow and device optimization.

Note that given the global scope of our team, limited travel may be required as needed.

Basic Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or higher) in physics/chemistry, material science or related field.
  • Experience in processing with III-V material systems
  • Experience in growing and optimizing high-k dielectrics
  • Experience in developing process recipes for III-V systems. Understanding the concepts of advanced process development and process quality control
  • Experience with electron beam lithography (EBL)
  • Experience in metrology with tools such as atomic force microscopes (AFM) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) as well as image processing for automated critical dimension (CD) measurements
